The Patient Journey Initiative – Kimberley Consultation Sessions

Save the Date Kimberley PJI September 2020

What is the Patient Journey Initiative?

The Patient Journey Initiative (PJI) is a Mental Health Quality Improvement activity that takes a “deep dive” into the experience of the patient’s journey through a regional mental health service. The file review component examines the patients journey through the Kimberley mental health service to help improve the quality of care provided to our patients. Structured consultation sessions will be undertaken in most Kimberley towns as listed in the schedule and provides an opportunity for all who attend a session to have input. This dual process allows the PJI to  gather both quantitative and qualitative information. Governance for the Kimberley PJI is provided by a  Project Control Group who are responsible to the WACHS Executive Director Mental Health and the Kimberley Regional Director.

The PJI will be undertaken over a 4 day visit to the Kimberley which includes patient file audits and structured Consultation sessions with Consumers, Carers, Community Organisations, Aboriginal Medical Services, Non-Government Organisations and others who may be considered as Key Partners. The file audit and consultation sessions will result in a report which will identify areas of good practice but also areas where the patients journey can be improved in particular regarding the quality of patient care within the mental health service. This information will be collated and mapped out in the findings and recommendations for local implementation. We want to hear from you during these Key Partner sessions so please note date, time and venue or VC# so you can join the process. Consultation sessions will be held for Key Partners, mental health, general hospital and ED staff.
