Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice (#4386)

This course is for people who want to provide a range of primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients, including specific health care programs, advice and assistance with medication. These workers can be expected to flexibly assume a variety of job roles and undertake a broad range of tasks.

This course is delivered in a block release format to allow access for students from across the Kimberley region to attend.

Certificate IV consists of 14 Core units and 7 Elective units and the requirement to complete 500 Clinical Hours

Core units

HLTAHW021 Provide nutrition guidance for specific health care
HLTAHW022 Address social determinants of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health
HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
HLTAID003 Provide first aid
HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
HKTAHW005 Work in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care context
HLTAHW006 Facilitate and advocate for the rights and needs of clients and community members
HLTAHW020 Administer medications
HLTAHW037 Support the safe use of medications
HLTAHW016 Assess client’s physical wellbeing
HLTAHW019 Deliver primary health care programs for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
HLTAHW017 Assess and support client’s social and emotional wellbeing
HLTAHW018 Plan, implement and monitor health care in a primary health care context

HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collection
HLTPAT004 Collect pathology specimens other than blood
HLTPOP009 Provide information and support on environmental health issues

HLTAHW008 Assist in planning and implementation of basic health care
