CHC43315 – Certificate IV in Mental Health (Release 2)

This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide self-directed recovery oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability.

Work involves implementing community based programs and activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work is undertaken in a range of community contexts such as community based non-government organisations; home based outreach; centre-based programs; respite care; residential services, rehabilitation programs; clinical settings; or supporting people in employment.
This course is delivered in a block release format to allow access for students from across the Kimberley region to attend.

Certificate IV consists of 11 Core units and 4 Elective units and the requirement to complete approx. 150 work placement hours.

Core units


Establish self-directed recovery relationships


Provide recovery orientated mental health services


Provide services to people with co-existing mental health & alcohol and other drug issues


Work legally and ethically


Work with diverse people


Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety


Assess and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing


Promote and facilitate self-advocacy


Work collaboratively with the care network and other services


Participate in workplace health and safety


Work effectively in trauma informed care

Elective Units


Provide First Aid


Assess needs of clients with alcohol & other drug issues


Recognise and respond to crisis situations


Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide
