Program Details

Solid Connections travels around to various towns and communities in the Kimberley, providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with an opportunity to discover new skills and explore career pathways in the Aboriginal Health Care and Support Workforce. KAMS partners with North Regional TAFE (NRT)to deliver culturally safe training and can help participants to get their birth certificates, police clearances and photo identification.

There are two types of Solid Connections, SC1 or SC2, which have different training:

Solid Connections One (SC1)

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid*
  • GATNUM002 Use Basic Numeracy in Familiar Situations*
  • GATTEC002 Use Digital Literacy in Familiar Situations*
  • GATCOM002 Use Communication in Familiar Situations*

Solid Connections Two (SC2)

Includes building a professional profile and training in the following units:

  • KEHLP: Kimberley Empowerment and Healing Leadership Program
  • LWADEV102: Plan Personal Development and Care Needs*
  • GATTEC102: Apply Basic Digital Literacy for Training And Workplace Purposes*
  • HLTWHS005: Conduct Manual Tasks Safety*
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid*

*Delivered by North Regional TAFE

For both versions of Solid Connections, KAMS provides:

  • School friendly hours
  • Fee-free training
  • In class support
  • Opportunity to upskill
  • Morning tea and lunch provided
  • Help with transport

To be eligible you must be:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • 18 years of age or older (or 15 years or older if in the local area and supported by family). 
  • You don't need a police clearance but will be offered to apply for one.
