Self care in a time of change – Perth

This one-day course explores the concept of change – including but not limited to global changes such as COVID – and considers its impact on our work and our wider environment.

2020 taught us a lot…we learnt new ways of doing things; how resilient we are; how important connection is to each of us and how things can change dramatically in a short period of time.  We also learnt that we can be overstretched, overworked, and knocked off balance.  We learnt that fundamentally we are all human, and we each have reactions and responses to the world around us.

Sometimes everyone wants the same thing, but no one realises… An individual experiencing mental health challenges often requires a mix of flexible responses to support their recovery journey.  Sometimes they are caught in a system that offers either clinical or community services or a mix of services that do not know how to talk to each other.  This course challenges the established services paradigm and asks what if…. we worked together in an equal partnership?

This course will support participants to:

  • * What is meant by self-care and why it is important.
  • * How to recognise signs that they need support as well as understanding how effective communication can help them to ask for, and get the support they need.
  • * Explore a range of self-care strategies, including effectively setting and maintaining boundaries.

Participants will be encouraged to embrace their creativity to craft innovative take-away self-care plans that they can use to enhance their ongoing self-care practice.
